Advanced Phone Systems for your Business
Communication is a vital part of any business: customers need to be able to call you and you need to be able to contact your existing (as well as potential) clients and as your business grows so do the requirements of your phone systems. If you are looking to replace or upgrade your existing phone system then we can provide you with everything you need, including a professional system, handsets and connectivity.
Introducing the Computersmiths Voice Server
Out of frustration with what was on offer from mainstream telecoms companies we decided to look for an alternative. We tried and tested a few options, some with greater success than others! Last year we partnered with a software developer, who had already begun expanding on some Open Source software, to see if there was a suitable alternative to the traditional phone systems.
After some further development and branding we areb now please to offer our own software based phone system.
What’s the difference?
Traditional systems are modular in design. Each module (hardware) has a function i.e. a module for voicemail, a module for music on hold, a module for Queues etc. The trouble with this is that each module costs a lot of money and so as your business grows you have to continually ‘Upgrade’ to add each module.
Our Voice Server changes all of this by managing all functions via software, therefore with only one initial purchase cost you can have all of the features straight from the box.
The Computersmiths Voice Server
The Computersmiths Voice Server provides all you need to construct a unified communication system within your company, so your phone becomes an integrated part of your existing IT network. Voicemails can be emailed to you and played as a wav file, you can dial a number from an Outlook contact and a caller’s details can automatically pop up on your screen as soon as the phone rings.
Besides the increased productivity there are real savings to be made. Make free calls over the Internet back to the office from anywhere in the world and save on office space by letting people work from home with a phone extension that works exactly as if they were in the office.
Every Voice Server is linked to a central server and automatically backs up its configuration every night using a Resilience Service. In the unlikely event of a unit failing a replacement can be restored to exactly the same configuration as the original. During the regular backup process each Voice Server also checks for any software patches and applies them automatically without any need for users to be involved. The Voice Sever is a unique product offering a full range of facilities and combines both VoIP and ISDN technology:
- • VoIP Enabled for low cost call routing
- • Configurable for standard telephone lines, ISDN2 & ISDN30
- • Unlimited extensions
- • Voicemail
- • Music on hold
- • IVR (i.e. Press 1 for Sales, 2 for Support)
- • Easily integrated with Microsoft Outlook
- • Allows Call Queues and Hunt Groups
- • Supports remote workers
A traditional system offering all of this would cost in excess of £10,000 but our voice server starts from just £1000 excl VAT (maintenance charges apply).

Telephone Handsets
Our Voice Server is unique in the industry in that we don’t lock you in to one make of handset. This means there is a wide range of handsets that will work with it, including Yealink, Snom & Grandstream.
We supply a wide range of handsets from a range of manufacturers. All our phones adhere to the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) – this means that they are not tied to any proprietary systems and can be very widely used, protecting your investment.
If you purchase any additional handsets from us we can preconfigure them before shipping. Meaning you can simply plug in and start using. As well as a variety of manufacturers of handsets, there is also a wide variety of models from basic phones without a display to executive phones with video streaming facilities. We can offer advice on which phone to choose based on your requirments.
VoIP
Voice over Internet Protocol is a way of making calls across the internet and is often cheaper than traditional telephone lines.
Our Voice Server supports most VoIP connections currently available. To ensure compatibility we have teamed up with VoIP Unlimited to provide a product like nothing else currently available.
For just £10.99 per month* you can make unlimited concurrent calls, this means you clients will never receive a busy tone and you will always be able to make a call out no matter how many people are on the phone. With a VoIP Unlimited SIP Trunk not only are the call charges in line with or cheaper than competitive CPS (Carrier Pre-Select) rates, but increasingly they are Free! Yes, we said free! This is because our IP to IP calls do not cross over from one network to another and are not subject to the usual gateway charges. International calls are also very competitive starting at 2p minute for the most popular destinations.
*Cost is for the SIP trunk only and doesn’t include the cost of the voice server or handsets.
Broadband is good, Ethernet is better.
Synchronisation and real-time functionality have become increasingly important in business –particularly for applications with VoIP calls, VideoConferencing and online collaboration tools – you need a connectivity solution with limited latency and reduced jitter.
The answer is a VoIP Unlimited Ethernet circuit.
As a 21CN solution, it harnesses the capabilities of the latest MPLS platforms as its delivery mechanism. Your customers will benefit from the improvements in transmission quality over existing ATM-based services, such as ADSL. Broadband is good, but Ethernet is better.
SIP over Ethernet
Ethernet now presents a real alternative to multiple ISDN30 circuits, allowing calls to be efficiently transited back to VoIP Unlimited’s core network without the inflexibility and expense of traditional fixed line services.
UK Wide Availability
With recent developments in access, Ethernet is now within reach of over 90% of the UK business population.
VoIP Unlimited’s Ethernet products come in increasing speed increments with a gentle step change, so you can have the ‘right size’ solution, avoiding the cost and waste of network over-extension. Circuit bandwidth speeds range from 1Mbit/s to 1gbit/s, and there’s a choice of access speeds, from 2Mbit/s (via copper) right up to a planned 10gbit/s.
A ‘Pay as you grow’ option is also available. You can install the capacity you will need for the future, but only pay for what you need now.
Features & Benefits
- Cost savings. The price of Ethernet is not distance dependent, apart from local access charges, and requires less investment in network adaptation equipment than some legacy WAN options. VoIP Unlimited has access to over 1100 access nodes reducing access costs.
- Business efficiencies. All applications – voice, data and IP – can be run over one platform with only one network to support.
- Speed and power. Ethernet meets the need for ever higher speeds as bandwidth-hungry applications multiply.
- Scalability. Ethernet can expand as easily as your business does, and it not only provides point-to-point, but also offers point-to-multipoint and fully meshed connectivity. Reliability and resilience. Less investment is required in support and back-up resources with guaranteed SLAs and SLGs.
- Better service quality, including higher and more flexible bandwidth for real time and business-critical applications.
Future proof investment
Ethernet is set to be the industry standard connectivity solution for many years to come. You can rest assured yuor investment will have a long product life and will form the foundations of future growth as and when required.
Standard Lines
For those wanting to keep some of the reliability of traditional telephony VoIP Unlimited are also able to provide competitive pricing on Analogue, ISDN30 & ISDN2 Lines.
Business Broadband
VoIP Unlimited bring you competetive pricing on business broadband connections, with a range of speed availability and download allowances. This is essential if you are planning to use VoIP with our systems as this helps us to manage the quality of the calls.
Case Study – Small Independent Charity
This small charity based in Bournemouth was looking for a new telecoms solution to replace an exchange based Virgin Media system. They had 8 extensions and were planning to increase the number of staff, so needed to be able easily increase the number of extensions as well as have greater functionality.
Customer Requirements
The requirements of the charity included:
- Voicemail
- Support for multiple sites (long term)
- Scaleable
Our Solution
As the client was clear that they were concerned about call quality over cost we decided to implement our Voice Server with a 2 Port ISDN card: our Voice Server comes with all the features you could want as standard. We also supplied a range of handsets for different uses.
We were able to provide all of this at a lower cost than they were quoted for a second hand traditional system, which had less functionality. The client has subsequently added a VoIP account to increase the capacity for concurrent calls and plans are underway to utilise the remote working facility as they move towards multiple sites.
